Nespresso Pixie Cups: (Review and FAQs)

Nespresso takes immense pride in their Nespresso Pixie machine for being the fastest of the lot. It has an amazing 25 seconds heating time to save users’ time especially when they are traveling or getting ready to go to their office early in the morning. Just like the popularity of this machine among coffee enthusiasts, another feature associated with this machine is quickly gaining the same popularity among them i.e. Nespresso Pixie Cups.

Designed to provide the customers with the best coffee experience, Nespresso Pixie cups offer an elegant look and perfect size to serve Nespresso as it’s meant to be served. In this piece, we’ll take a look at different sizes of Nespresso Pixie cups and some of the frequently asked questions by customers.

After reading this, you should be able to shop for your favorite cup without having to go through the trouble of finding a guide.

If you think that Pixie cups look like Nespresso pods, you are not alone and it was intended by the company to provide you with a similar experience. They wanted the cup to look similar to the pods so they can become an easy sell as an add-on to your shopping experience when you are buying a Pixie.

Nespresso Pixie Cup Size

Nespresso Pixie cups come in two basic sizes:

Espresso

If you want to enjoy a punchy shot of espresso, this Pixie cup size would be perfect for you as it holds 40 mL or 1.35 Oz of liquid in them. But if you enjoy a big mug early in the morning to take you through it then you should go for the one below.

Lungo

This is the bigger version of the same cup. It has a holding capacity of 110mL or 3.71 Oz. A perfect companion for travelers.

Nespresso Pixie Cup Colors

If you are new to the world of Nespresso, Pixie’s cup colors are named after their capsules so can be a bit confusing. But don’t worry, I’m here to make it easy for you.

The smaller Pixie cups i.e. Espresso ones are available in two basic colors Ristretto=black and Arpeggio= Purple.

The bigger cups (Lungo) offer variety as follows:

  • Envivo= Shiny brown
  • Fortissio= Green
  • Linizio= Orange
  • Vivalto= Blue

Yes, you guessed it right, the colors have been intelligently named after the capsules to make you feel comfortable with the lingo (personally, I find it a bit confusing).

The contract for designing cups was awarded to a French team that goes by the name 5.5. They have provided the sleek design of the cups while ensuring that the cup doesn’t feel hot when you are holding it from the outside, thanks to the double-walled stainless steel.

Nespresso Pixie Cup Holder

These cup holders are specifically designed to hold both sizes of Nespresso Pixie cups without any hassle. Also, when you are pouring over coffee in the cup, this cup holder makes sure it doesn’t spill here and there and mess up your kitchen counter or coffee table.

Nespresso Pixie Cup Size Programming

There are two basic sizes (as mentioned above) of Nespresso Pixie cups i.e. Espresso and Lungo. So the cup size programming in the machine is according to these two sizes.

If you want a 40mL drink, you should select the espresso size and it’ll give you the exact volume of the drink in your favorite Nespresso Pixie cup. However, if you are like me and want the morning caffeine to really kick in, you should choose the Lungo option, and Voila! You’ll get 110mL of steaming coffee in your cup.

Are Nespresso Pixie Cups Dishwasher Safe?

Yes, Nespresso mentions this fact on their website. Also, when I was doing my digging on this, I came across individuals who used dishwashers to clean their Pixie cups and it worked fine for them.

The only catch here is to make sure you don’t overdo it as there were some people out there who complained that the shiny finishing on their cups was no longer there after they washed these cups.

But as far as the official answer is concerned, yes, Nespresso Pixie cups are perfectly safe to use in dishwashers.

People also suggested washing the cup with your hands in order to maintain that shine for a long time. If you ask me, I’d suggest you better play it safe and not use the dishwasher initially unless you absolutely have to or if you are in a hurry.

You can use your regular liquid soap (non-abrasive) to clean it up or just wash it with hot water using a sponge, the choice is yours. Just make sure you clean it properly as your coffee might taste odd if you don’t.

Nespresso Pixie Cups Height

The smaller-sized cup is around 61cm in height. This is less than the height of an average adult’s index finger in the US as that is around 71cm.

The larger cup is 78 cm in height, almost 7 cm longer than your index finger if you are an average American adult.

Nespresso Pixie Cup Size Reset

Resetting the Pixie Cup size is quite easy to do. You just need to plug out the machine and plug it back in holding down the Lungo button, it’ll restore to factory settings.

If you don’t know what calibrate function is, simply put, it’s the ability of your Pixie to remember the amount of coffee you get every time you use it. The machine needs to be plugged into the socket to remember this data and use the calibrate function.

To use the calibrate function, just turn on your machine and fill the water tank. Now when the lights stop blinking, you can pop in your Nespresso pod, press the button according to your preference (Lungo or Espresso), and hold the button down until you reach the desired amount of coffee in your cup and that’s it.

Now the machine will remember how much coffee you’ll need the next time you operate it, you won’t need to keep the button pressed and just tap it once.

How Much Do These Cups Cost?

The cost is subjective depending on the region you are currently located. In this post, we’ll take the figures as they appear in the US.

  • Two Pixie Lungo Duo Cups cost $32 and they come in a set of two.
  • Two Pixie Espresso cups cost $30 and these also come in a set of two.

Why Should You Buy Nespresso Pixie Cups?

Well, firstly, the cups are exquisite and look elegant in your hands. Moreover, the shiny colors feel like you are holding one of the Nespresso capsules in your hands, something that can become an icebreaker in a social situation.

Pragmatically, these cups are quite durable, I’ve seen people using them for years and their shine hasn’t faded as of yet. The size of the cups is also another factor you should consider while buying.

The two basic sizes are explained above (Espresso and Lungo) but the amount of coffee output can be varied to increase output or decrease it as per your whims or what Nespresso recommends on their website.

Another reason for choosing these cups is to feel the shot of espresso in its entirety instead of the mundane ceramic cup. This stainless steel-made cup will please your palates if you are an espresso lover to the core.

The last reason I would give to buy these cups is their easy-to-clean aspect. You can put them in a dishwasher or manually and you’d get them as good as new without putting yourself through too much.

Cons of buying these cups:

The cons are not really too many, the unavailability of variety in colors and the fact you need to buy these in sets instead of choosing to buy one only. It’s not an issue if you are not fussy about small things in life.

Do you have any cons in mind about these cups? If yes, feel free to comment and let others know. After all, we are all here to learn from each other’s experiences.
